Blush & Eggplant

Sweater: Thrifted, Skirt: Forever 21, Shirt: Custom Men's, Earrings: Forever 21, Watch: Kessaris Quartz, Bracelet: (Necklace) Banana Republic, Big Ring: Cache, Small Ring: Gifted, Shoes: Christian Louboutin

Today I paired a pretty eggplant colored sweater with a blush skirt. I'm not sure if you've noticed, but I often wear "custom men's shirts" on the blog. What does that mean? Well, my boyfriend gets his shirts custom made and often stops liking them for whatever reason. I then inherit them, chop them up with a scissors, and wear them as my own. I know what you’re thinking, he's either really small or the shirt is really big. Well, I use them for layering (as seen herehere, and here) and they’re perfect. What I love most is that they offer an over sized collar that I wouldn't get with a shirt in my own size. Now that you know my little secret you can rescue your guy’s shirts from the goodwill pile and make them a new addition to your wardrobe!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Metallic Brocade

Jacket: Vintage (Via The Loved One Boutique), Shirt: Zara, Skirt: No Appointment Necessary, Earrings: H&M, Bracelets: Forever 21 & Charlotte Russe, Shoes: Gucci, Bag: Prada, Lipstick: Black Radiance "Eggplant", Nails: Essie "Recessionista"

I was thrilled when I found this gorgeous brocade jacket while vintage hunting a few weeks back. It is one of those pieces that can instantly transform any outfit. Today I decided to mix prints by pairing it with a silky striped blouse. I kept the rest of the look simple with a few black staples.

Happy Wednesday!

I just wanted to take a moment to share with you some of my favorite snapshots from New York Fashion Week. Looking back I realize that it was even more wonderful then I had originally anticipated. Sure the days were long, but they were filled with fashion and being at the shows/presentations was a sensory experience like no other. To be quite honest, I think that I fell in love with fashion all over again. Strolling the streets of the beautiful city, and seeing snow for the first time in years all added to the fun. I already can't wait to see what September brings.

On another note, I'm so excited to be featured on I Heart Heels today! Be sure to check out the post here.

Casual Sequins

Turtleneck: Forever 21, Top: Ann Taylor Loft, Jeans: Forever 21, Blazer: J Crew, Necklace: Charlotte Russe, Earrings: H&M, Bracelets: IN PINK c/o, Charming Charlie, Forever 21, and Outrage Fashion c/o, Watch: Michael Kors, Shoes: Charles David, Bag: Liz Claiborne, Lipstick: Mac "Taupe"

I love this bronze sequined top that a picked up at Ann Taylor Loft a while back. At first glance it's a bit intimidating with all of the sparkle. This would probably cause it to be put it in the "going out" or "dressing up" section of your closet -- a section that I'm sure gets very little traffic. It's important to find creative ways to wear these items too because that way the cost per wear is much lower and you are maximizing your wardrobe. Today, I decided to layer a cozy turtle neck underneath and paired it with distressed jeans to create a little juxtaposition. I added a pretty coral statement necklace and lots of bangles, just because it's Friday.

I hope you have a great weekend. Thanks so much for reading!

Like A Jewel

Dress: Vintage (tailored), Belt: Vintage, Earrings: H&M, Bracelets: In Pink c/o & Charming Charlie, Watch: Michael Kors (similar here) Bag: Prada, Shoes: Christian Louboutin, Lipstick: Napoleon Perdis "Eros" c/o

I'm so happy to debut this pretty purple dress. It has been sitting in my "to be altered pile" for quite some time and today it finally got to come out for a stroll. If you're a regular reader of A Keene Sense of Style then you already know that I love to go treasure hunting for vintage goodies. I scour my local thrift stores and flea markets to see what I can find, often times leaving empty handed. People are always asking me how I find so many great pieces, and the answer is that I am always on the hunt. Also, when something that I love is a little too big or I don't like its sleeves, I buy it anyways and take it to my tailor because I know it has great potential. Sometimes it just needs a little love and a good home.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when shopping for vintage:

1. Thoroughly inspect items to make sure there are no holes or stains.
2. Be prepared to spend some time digging.
3. Don't be afraid to do easy repairs (adding/replacing buttons and zippers or repairing a seam).
4. Factor in the cost of alterations.
5. Always dry clean or wash before wearing.

Easy Does It

Hat: Lord & Taylor, Turtleneck: Merona via Target, Blazer: Comme Ca Du Monde, Skirt: Guess, Bag: Cali Joules c/o, Watch: Michael Kors, Earrings: H&M,  Shoes: Charles David

The past few days have been chilly with the occasional drizzle. Not only does this make me not want to get out of bed at all, but it also makes getting dressed a bit of a challenge. Today I stuck with a simple black and white color palette adding a pretty hat and mary-janes to keep things feminine.

What do you wear when you're stuck in a weather rut?

Dressed Up Plaid

Jacket: Vintage: Shirt: Custom Mens, Pants: H&M, Watch: Michael Kors, Bracelets: J Crew, Charlotte Russe, & Gifted, Bag: Vintage, Shoes: Gucci, Lipstick: Black Radiance #5014
Photos by: Emma K Studio

I find plaid trousers to be endlessly versatile. They are perfect for a day at the office or you can add a linen shirt, flats, and a great cross body bag for a day of strolling and running errands. I wanted to dress mine up a bit so I paired them with a crisp white button up, black pumps, and a structured blazer.

What plaid pieces do you reach for most in your closet?

Pattern Play

Shirt: Ann Taylor, Jacket: via Ebay, Jeans: Fidelity Denim c/o, Bag: via Veronica M Boutique, Earrings: H&M, Necklace: J Crew, Watch: Michael Kors, Shoes: Steve Madden, Lipstick: NYC "Berry Rich" & Beautique "Mocha" liner

Today I decided to pair my printed denim with a feminine statement jacket. If you are new to wearing floral denim I would recommend buying a black and white pair to ease in to the trend. That way you can pair them  with a colored top to have a chic and easy look. I added an emerald green silk blouse for a bit of color and silver accessories for a touch of  sparkle.

Happy Monday!

Pleats & Pearls

Sweater: J Crew Factory on sale here, Skirt: Forever 21, Necklace: J crew, Earrings: H&M, Watch: Michael Kors, Bracelets: IN PINK c/o, & Charming Charlie, Shoes: Sole Society

Today I decided to wear one of my favorite pleated skirts and ladylike pearls for a sunny day of strolling. I accessorized with a vintage bag and white pumps. At first I was skeptical about buying these shoes, but now I just can't seem to stop wearing them! I think I'm partial to gold hardware.

I hope you are having a great weekend!

Recap: NYFW Day 4

Dress: Vintage (last seen here) Skirt: Lulu's, Jacket: BCBG, Faux Fur Stole: ASOS, Seamed Tights: ASOS, Necklaces: Nina Shoes c/o and Forever 21, Earrings: H&M, Watch: Michael Kors, Shoes: Gucci, Bag: Prada, Lipstick: Mac "Taupe" w/ Clinique Lipgloss in "Sunset"

Today is a recap of what I wore for New York Fashion Week day 4. The biggest challenge while I was in the city was trying to stay warm and still look chic. In LA the temperature is never really that big of a factor because even at our coldest it's really only "chilly".  This might have been my favorite outfit of the week because I just love this vintage dress. I decided to layer one of my favorite pleated skirts underneath it to add a bit more length and volume. A little secret- Since it was so bitter cold; I wore two pairs of tights! Yes! I layered a nude pair under my black sheer ones to keep me warmer and it definitely helped. I accessorized by layering two statement necklaces for a little extra sparkle and topped it all off with my faux fur stole to add texture.

I hope you have a great weekend! As always, if you enjoy reading I would love for you to subscribe, it's free and easy. Just enter your e-mail address here. Thank you so much for stopping by!

Red Handed

Jacket: Jigsaw London c/o,  Sweater: Forever 21, Pencil Skirt: Thrifted (tailored), Gloves: via Ebay, Watch: Michael Kors, Earrings: H&M, Shoes: Charles David, Bag: Louis Vuitton, Lipstick: Black Radiance #5014 & L'Oreal "Turbulent" gloss

The past few days have been a bit of a whirlwind. Last night I got back from New York late and I have been feeling a bit jet lagged all day. But it was well worth it because I had an absolutely wonderful time in the city. The fashion shows, the scenery, and all of the wonderful people I met along the way. It was truly an experience to be remembered.

Today I decided to wear this lovely wool angora trim jacket (deeply discounted plus an extra 20% off tonight starting at 7pm) and all day it made me feel so glamorous. I kept things mostly monochromatic and added bright pops of red.

Congratulations to Susan Smoaks!

NYFW Day 3

Coat: Vintage, Faux Fur Stole: ASOS, Blazer: H&M, Shirt: Brooks Brothers (mens), Pants: (recent), Watch: Michael Kors, Earrings: H&M, Bag: Prada, Shoes: Gucci, Lipstick: (lip liner) Via Sally's Beauty "Beautique: Real Red"

You'll have to forgive me for being a little slow on blogging for the past few days. I have been in NYC for fashion week and things have been pretty fast paced. You may have heard about the blizzard that hit the east coast, I haven't seen snow in years and it was crazy to say the least! It has definitely caused me to consider my footwear a little more before leaving my hotel. However, we can't let that slow us down! I have really been enjoying the shows it's great to have a little insight as to what will be on trend for the coming season (follow me on Instagram @elizabethkeene to keep up on the latest). I will be sure to post a full recap once things slow down a bit.

Also, I'm so excited to have been featured as one of Elle Magazine's "Street Chic" for the NYFW fall collections click here to see the article (it's my look from day 1).

Don't forget there is still time to enter my giveaway for a chance to win this fabulous bag!

Signature Style

Jacket: Forever 21 also loving this tweed option, Dress: Forever 21, Earrings: H&M, Watch: Michael Kors, Necklace: Veronica M Boutique, Shoes: Sole Society, Bag: Prada, Bangles: Forever 21 similar here & Charlotte Russe, Big Bracelet: c/o INPINK  (use the code KEENESTYLE30 for 30% off of any jewelry until 3/15/13) Lipstick: Mac Taupe

Today's look is what I would call my signature style. I feel most confident when I'm wearing a feminine outfit and when there is tweed and a full-skirt involved it's even better. Although, I love to play around with trends and step out of my comfort zone, I think it's really important to stay true to yourself and what you love.

On another note, I will be leaving tomorrow for New York Fashion Week and I couldn't be more excited! Although I'm sure the next couple of days will be hectic, I am certainly up for the challenge.

Feel free to follow my coverage of the fabulous fashion shows on Twitter & Instagram! I can't wait to eat, shop, and photograph my way through the city.

Thank you so much for reading!
